Abstract
Sichuan Province Academy of Natural Resource Science (SPANRS) has carried out more than 30 years of scientific research in the red-fleshed kiwifruit resources collection, conservation, evaluation and breeding aspects.
SPANRS has collected more than 10 thousand materials from Jiangxi, Henan and the Three Gorges Reservoir Areas and has developed hundreds of Hongyang kiwifruit hybrid offspring.
We selected 17 core breeding materials from the 10 thousand materials by criteria: red ovary, yellow or yellowish green flesh color, high dry matter content (DM), large fruit, resistance to drought and disease, good red-fleshed kiwifruit.
We developed two new red-fleshed cultivars, Hongshi 1 and Hongshi 2. The red-fleshed kiwifruit breeding has laid a solid foundation for our countrys red-fleshed kiwifruit industry development.
