CURRENT SITUATION AND POTENTIAL OF WILD ACTINIDIA ARGUTE RESOURCES IN NORTHEASTERN CHINA

Abstract
Commercial development of Actinidia argute became more important in the late 20th century.
Although the nutrient value of the fruit and the health protective properties such as anti-cancer, anti-aging and lowering blood pressure are acknowledged, A. argute has not been widely developed because of problems in cultivation and because of the short storage life of the fruit.
Our group has produced several elite cultivars, ‘ChangJiang No. 1’, ‘ChangJiang No. 2’ and ‘ChangJiang No. 3’. Based on tissue culture and sand bed propagation, large-scale cultivation and production of A. argute nursery stock has become a reality.
Meanwhile food processing techniques such as the separation and isolation of secondary metabolites have been developed.
The findings can provide comprehensive technical support for protecting wild A. argute resources and the promotion of its commercialization.
