Abstract
Small root-shoots of red raspberry (Rubus idaeus L., cv.
Meeker) form adventitious roots along the below-ground (etiolated) portion when placed in vials containing an auxin solution.
Root-shoots lacking an etiolated region do not root.
Root primordia originate in the interfascicular region contiguous to vascular bundles, and are visible, as masses of meristematic cells, within 48 hours after the beginning of an auxin treatment.
Ethanolic extracts of both green and etiolated raspberry stem tissue promote rooting of mung bean (Phaseolus aureous Roxb.), but inhibit rooting of raspberry root-shoots.
