Abstract
Following a temperature of -5°C records were taken on the survival of pear blossoms on over 80 varieties and selections.
The pears were in the "bud burst" to "green cluster" stage of the bloom at the time of the frost, 21, April 1981. The most common form of injury was the killing of the pistils.
Within "date-of-full-bloom" classes there were wide differences between cultivars in survival of the flowers.
