Abstract
Within the 45 genera of Proteaceae native to Australia, a number of species of Banksia, Dryandra, Grevillea, Isopogon and Telopea are suited for commercial cut flower production.
With this genetic diversity a systematic approach should be used by plant breeders and growers to determine which species or variants of proteaceous flowers and foliage to select and cultivate.
This paper examines those factors and selection criteria which influence those species which are grown as commercial crops.
Examples of each genus are highlighted as to their suitability for cut flower production.
