Abstract
Sundrop apricot trees grown on light (LS) and heavy (HS) soil were treated with a soil application of paclobutrazol with doses from 0.25 g to 1 g/tree (LS) and from 2 g to 6 g/tree (HS). Compared to the control, treated trees produced two different growth and cropping patterns.
LS trees showed minor growth reduction and a decrease in fruit yield.
HS trees produced a significant reduction in growth and pruning requirements, and an increase in yield, but there were no significant differences between the rates.
HS trees treated with higher rates of paclobutrazol showed symptoms of increasing limb bareness.
