Abstract
Some years after the release of the very promising strawberry cultivar Sivetta, susceptibility to Alternaria leaf spot, caused by Alternaria alternata f.sp. fragariae became obvious.
Effective control of the disease by iprodione failed due to the occurrence of resistant strains.
As susceptibility of Sivetta to Alternaria alternata was never assessed during the screening and test period, the necessity to test cultivars against this disease before their release became apparent.
Therefore a test method was developed.
It was found that nearly all susceptible cultivars and selections were derived from crosses with Redgauntlet and Talisman or related selections.
