Abstract
Pollen grains of 8 commercial varieties of carnation were cultured "in vitro" on a germination medium with increasing concentrations (0%, 7,5%, 15%, 30%) of axenic culture filtrate of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. dianthi pathotypes II and IV. The pollen response to the filtrate was observed as germination percentage and tube growth.
The effect of the culture filtrate was also studied on sporophyte (seedlings coming from different crossings). The results show that the screening of resistant cultivars through pollen assay appears feasible.
