Abstract
The application of thermal screens is quite wide spread in greenhouses with ornamental crops and vegetables.
With these screens, that can be opened and closed automatically, it is possible to create and insulating second cover above the crop under the glassroof.
This of course dramatically cuts down the heat losses from the greenhouse to the environment considerably.
Besides this energy saving aspect there is the cliamte improvement that can be realised with a thermal screen in different directions.

In order to realise a high energy saving, the screen material needs to reduce bot convective and radiative heat losses.
In order to reduce convective heat losses the screen needs to be as tight as possible, however not so tight that humidity and condensation problems shoulsd arrise.
For a minimum of radiation losses, it is important to choose materials with high absorption reflection of long wave IR radiation.
Aluminised polyester is the best choice to meet this requirement.

The climate improvement of screens is three fold: light reduction when necessary (hot summer weather), temperature optimalisation (in wintertime there is more security that optimum temperature is realised, in summertime the temperature can be reduced) and humidity control.
In order to be able to get a proper light reduction level it is important to have available a whole range of shade screens, each with another shade value.

The company Ludvig Svensson in completely specialised in the production of thermal screens.
The range of screens comprises no less than 70 different types, differing in shade level (from 20 – 99,99%), energy saving (15 – 75%), applicability (horizontal screens, vertical roller screens, outside screens etc.). Due to this there is always available a type of screen that meets the specific wishes in a specific case.
LS screens are in use both in glasshouses as in plastic greenhouses.
