Abstract
The use of plants on the platform of railway stations illustrates the Japanese attitude toward the railway stations.
Traditionally a station was considered to be a front entrance to a city.
However, this attitude has been partially changed by urbanization and industrial modernization, a station becoming thought of as a gate to a city in urban areas.
However, regeneration of the traditional attitude among citizens is being observed.
