Abstract
The increasing specialization of our nurseries makes one question more and more important, i.e. the question of the influence of various greenhouse types upon the labour input.

Practical experience has shown that a clear-span house over 12 meter width – containing only one crop (such as cucumbers, or peppers, or cut flowers, or pot plants) demands less labour input than the multiplespan houses (block) with a width of the spans from 3 to 6 meters.
Apart from a lower labour input, the heating costs are lower in a large house with a wide span.

To confirm this general experience in our nurseries, a great many investigations regarding the labour input were made in Austria.
