Abstract
This paper describes the approach adopted at Horticulture Research International, East Malling for developing an integrated PC-based system giving crop disease warnings.
The approach is mainly based on biological and epidemiological considerations.
This approach separates the warning system into distinct but related modules dealing with weather, host & pathogen, farm management, disease development, user inter-face and a dynamic-linking shell.
This modular structure allows easy expansion to incorporate new models.
This approach has been successfully used to develop Adem™, an apple disease warning system.
