SUITABLE MANAGEMENT OF HAZELNUT FRUITWOOD INCREASES NUT PRODUCTION

Abstract
The present situation was surveyed in 16 plantings in four districts in Albania to determine the economic value of hazelnut stands and orchards, to note the cultural practices used, and to estimate wood and nut production.
Nut production was low, and bacterial blight and weevils were common problems. ‘Visoke’ is considered the best Albanian cultivar, but imported cultivars predominate in younger orchards.
Grower co-operatives are being established in hazelnut producing districts, and nurseries are being established to propagate hazelnuts.
We would like to grow high quality hazelnut and sell them on the world market.
