Abstract
On a plum experimental plantation established in 1980 with cultivars Stanley, Gabrovska and Kyustendilska sinya grafted on bullage plum (Prunus insititia L.) Byala Uhrepka variety rootstock, and located in a severely infected area, the different rate of PPV infection was monitored and registered.
The nature of infection was first proved in 1994 using ELISA and later on through additional tests in 1997 and 2000.
Disease symptoms were first encountered in Kyustendilska sinya on the first year, in Stanley on the fourth year and in root suckers of Gabrovska on the fifth year.
Until the twelfth year of orchard management nearly all the trees of Kyustendilska sinya were infected, compared to 23% of Stanley trees and just 1% in Gabrovska.
The outstandingly low infection rate of infection in Gabrovska was attributed to the Byala Uhrepka rootstock.
This conclusion was drawn due to the fact that in another experimental orchard located in the same area 50% of the trees of this variety, however, grafted on myrobalan rootstock, were infected by the seventh year of planting.
No significant differences were found in the rate of PPV infection between the trees of Kyustendilska sinya and Stanley.
