STUDIES ON NATURAL AND CONTROLLED POLLINATION IN YELLOW PASSION FRUIT (PASSIFLORA EDULIS F. FLAVICARPA DEG.)
All flowers used in the present studied were classifiel according to style curvature and fruit set was checked 8 days after flower opering.
For the natural pollination studies all flowers allowed a free visit of any kind of pollination agents.
If rain happens during flowering time until 16.00 hours, there will be a decrease in fruit set as a consequence.
Controlled pollination studies were done, using a screen protection.
The pollination agents used were: honey bees (Apis mellifera adansonii), carpenter bees (Xylocopa Megaxylocopa frontalis (OLIVER); Xilocopa Neoxylocopa spl and Xylocopa Neoxylocopa sp2), and wind.
Among the pollinations agents tested: carpenter bees were the most efficient with TC and PC flowers, SC flowers always were fruitless.
Honey bees presented a low efficiency and wind pollination is nil.
