Abstract
The paper presents a review of the biotechnological methods applied by our group to the cactus-pear (Opuntia ficus-indica). We summarise the protocols we have developed for micropropagation by axillary bud proliferation, for plant regeneration from isolated shoot apical meristems, for the induction of callus and cell suspensions as well as for protoplast isolation and culture.
We also provide a protocol for genetic transformation by particle bombardment.
Future perspectives for biotechnological research on this species are discussed.
