Abstract
This paper contains the results of a comparative economic analysis between production units in which cactus pear cultivation was carried out by conventional methods and units in which an organic method was used.
The survey was divided into two phases during which the main economic-territorial characteristics of conventional and organic cactus pear cultivation were identified, and then a sample of representative production units was selected which permitted the economic results of the two cultivation methods to be ascertained.
Significant elements of differentiation emerged from the comparison as regards average yields per surface area, labour use, production costs, profits, distribution circuits, etc. thus incrementing the low number of economic-business analyses available on this subject.
