Abstract
This study has the aim to exploit the Opuntia ficus indica (L.) Mill. culture widespread in Sicily, also with the employment of the waste matter (cladodes and unmarketable fruits). Therefore a biological screening on lopping cladodes was performed.
Homogenized and lyophilized cladodes of O. ficus indica, deprived of epidermis and glochides, show hypocholesterolemic, antiinflammatory, antiulcer and cicatrizant activity.
