Abstract
Cactoblastis cactorum . is a common pest in cactus pear (Opintia ficus-indica) cultivations in the Northeastern region of Argentina (NOA). Chemical control of this pest has been developed by growers on a trial and error basis criteria.
To determine the efficacy of diferent insecticides for the control of C.s cactorum , Carbaril (CA) (160cc/hl), Deltametrin (DEL) (10cc/hl), Endosulfan (END) (150cc/hl), Spinosad (SPI) (40cc/hl), and Triflumuron (TRI)( 30cc/hl) were tested in laboratory.
They were applied with and without adjuvants.
Their efficacies as a contact and ingestion insecticides were evaluated 24 and 72 hours, and their residual activity at four and seven days after application.
Mortalities ranged from between 20 and 100 %. CA, DEL y SPI perforned well as contact insecticides and their efficacy inproved when used with adjuvants. END gave intermediate results , while TRI was least effective against C. cactorum . Adjuvant increased efficacy because it the residual effect.
