EFFECT OF SOIL SOLUTION SALINITY ON THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF TOMATO YIELD

Abstract
This work studies the effect of salinity on the tomato crop var. ” Forteza ” grown on soil in a greenhouse.
Salinity has been evaluated by the electric conductivity of the soil solution obtained by suction cups.
Production was evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively.
In this trial there were no significant differences in total production, although there was a modification in the fruit diameter, which decreased with the highest saline treatment.
The qualitative parameters considered here were the firmness of the fruit and those measured in the fresh juice of the tomato: E C, soluble solids content and pH. Salinity increased the firmness of the fruit, the E C and the soluble solids.
The fruit obtained with salinity presents a better quality and smaller size without affecting the total production.
