Abstract
The activities of sucrose synthetic enzymes in tomato fruit supplemented with granular silicates in perlite hydroponic culture were periodically monitored during the growth period.
Three granular silicate levels of 100, 200 and 400 ton ha-1 were mixed in perlite medium.
Vine-ripening type tomato seedlings at 60 days after seeding were transplanted in a perlite hydroponic system.
With the increase of silicate application in culture media, the silicon content in tomato fruit significantly increased.
The activities of sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS) and sucrose synthase (SS) in tomato fruits showed a maximum value at 34 days after fruit setting.
The silicate application in perlite media positively correlated with the silicon content in tomato fruit and the activities of SPS and SS.
