Abstract
The Plant Variety Protection Act was signed into law 24 December 1970. The purpose of the Act is to encourage the development of novel varieties of sexually reproduced plants and to make them available to the public, provide protection available to those who breed, develop or discover them, and thereby promote progress in agriculture in the public interest.
Reciprocity limits for the protection of sexually reproduced varieties have been established with the Federal Republic of Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the Republic of South Africa.
