Abstract
Genotipic variation for the abscisic acid (ABA) accumulation was studied in vitro shoot culture at different NaCl concentrations in Vitis. Significant differences for the leaf ABA content were detected among different table and wine grapes subject to salinity (NaCl) stress.
No correlation was observed between the leaf ABA content and the shoot growth (dry weight) in vitro culture of Vitis genotypes.
The broad sense heritability was low for the leaf ABA content ((h2 =0.09 ) due to the large variability among replicates attributable mainly to the sensitivity of the ABA measurements by the RIA (radioimmunoassay) technique.
The leaf ABA content might be useful to detect differences among treatments (stressed and non-stressed) but it does not have a potential value to screen genotypes for the tolerance to NaCl in Vitis.
