Abstract
The influence of different irrigation rates on commercial production and fruit quality was evaluated in Vitis vinifera cv Superior Seedless.
The study was carried out on 3 year old vines growing on an overhead trellis (2.8m x 2.8m) with trickle irrigation.
The ETc was calculated using the daily evaporation of standard class A pan.
The crop coefficient was adjusted from previous research.
The soil water potential with a threshold of 40 kPa determined the irrigation schedule.
The treatments evaluated were 100% of ETc (1), 80% of ETc (2), 70% ETc (3), and 60% ETc (4). There was a significant difference among treatments in the number of clusters and total commercial weight, where treatments 1 and 2 had significantly higher yield than 3 and 4. The number and weight of non-commercial clusters were significantly higher in treatments 3 and 4. When water use efficiency was analyzed non-significant differences among treatments were observed.
These preliminary data showed a high sensitivity of Superior Seedless to water deficits.
