Abstract
Trees of Plum cultivar Satluj Purple were planted at 5 spacings viz., 6×6, 6×3, 6×1.5, 3×3 and 3×1.5 m on the sandy loam soil with 8.2 pH. Trees at 6×6 m significantly produced greater canopy volume (13.25 m3) while height of trees was maximum (4.32 m) at 6×1.5 m spacing.
Fruits harvested from trees at 6×6 m and 6×1.5 m were superior in size, colour, firmness and fruit quality.
However, yield per hectare was highest in trees spaced at 3×1.5 m.
Tree density did not affect foliar P and K status significantly whereas N content varied significantly and it was highest in trees at 6×1.5 m.
Root distribution studies indicated that trees at 6×6 m exhibited more biomass horizontally, while it was closer to trunks of trees vertically downward at 3×3, 3×1.5 and 6×1.5 m spacings.
