Abstract
A considerable proportion of bred in vitro artichoke plants exhibit the phenomena of losing their early characteristics.
The following experiment investigated the phenological drift in artichoke genotypes bred under in vitro conditions.
In particular the differences between in vitro material obtained from lower and middle bud on the rootstock was examined.
Two clones of Cynara scolymus L. were used to extract transplant material.
The plants obtained from in vitro material were subsequently used in a randomised block design with four replicates.
Differences in leaf morphology (leaf shape and spineless) were used to discriminate between genotypes.
There was no difference of behaviour between plants taken from the lower and middle section of the rootstock, while differences were noted between clones.
The percentage of early plants of the clone 78B was 24.5%, while from the clone 106B it was 66.9%. More clones will be tested in the future trials.
