Abstract
The aim of this study was to clarify the possibility to generate a simple model for yield dynamics based on tree vegetative growth in intensive orchards depending on the planting system.
A model is generated for an orchard located in Latvia, utilising the results from investigations carried out in Germany.
Trunk cross sectional area (TCSA) dynamics as parameter of vegetative growth of trees was estimated in previous work for two planting density ranges.
Relations between annual yield, cumulative yield and TCSA for cv.
Cox Orange Pippin, Jonagold and Elstar on the rootstock M9 planted in 1982 in Klein-Altendorf were investigated.
It was concluded that the relation between cumulative yield and TCSA can be used for yield modelling.
The relation between annual yield and TCSA or cumulative yield effectiveness dynamics can not be exploited for yield modelling.
A linear function characterises the relationship between cumulative yield and TCSA quite precisely for an orchard till the age of 15 years.
This relation is significantly influenced by cultivar, planting density and agroclimatical conditions.
