Abstract
A previously developed carbon balance model (Lakso et al., Acta Hort. 557:473-480) was further improved and tested.
Improvements in the leaf area and light interception simulation improved dry matter production estimates that were validated with yearly total growth analysis data from New Zealand on three cultivars at varying spacing.
Refinements to the fruit growth and abscission model have been made and have resulted in improved model behavior in terms of fruit growth and patterns of post-bloom drop.
Dry matter partitioning has been improved and gives reasonable dry matter distributions.
Effects of foliar pests or other photosynthetic inhibitors (such as caustic post-bloom thinners) are also simulated.
