Abstract
New FA (L. formolongi × Asiatic ‘A95-14’), FO (L. formolongi × Oriental ‘O54’), OH (Oriental ‘Casa Blanca’ × L. henryi) and OA (Oriental ‘Casa Blanca’ × Asiatic ‘Sgl Pepper’) hybrids were obtained through stigmatic, cut style pollination and embryo rescue in immature statues.
The interspecific hybrids obtained were backcrossed and FAA (FA hybrid × Asiatic ‘A95-14’) hybrid plants were obtained.
The characteristics of ‘Supia’ have trumpet shape, small size, early flowering, upward-facing flower direction and no fragrance. ‘Pink Pearl’ has bigger flower size than the male flower, early flowering, upward-facing flower direction and few spots.
The characteristics of ‘FO 03-16’ involved deep pink color of the male flower, big flower, broad leaf shape, strong fragrance, short generation and short bulb production period. ‘OA 05-1’ lily line has strong fragrance, upward-facing flower direction and shorter growing period. ‘OH 02-1’ has downward-facing flower direction, big flower size, no spot and vigorous growth.
In order to overcome the sterility of interspecific hybrids, tetraploid plants were obtained by in vitro chromosome doubling.
Low concentration (0.001% to 0.005%) of oryzalin was used and was more effective to obtain tetraploid than high concentrations of colchicine (0.1% to 0.05%). No effect of caffeine (0.1% to 3%) treatments was shown.
The pollen fertility of interspecific hybrid lily was recovered up to 40% in tetraploid level.
