Abstract
Some physiological aspects of the rooting potentials between different olive cultivars were studied.
Although the origin of propagation material regarding age of mother plant, location of and on mother shoot affects greatly the rooting ability of the cuttings, the basic rooting potential of the cultivar is genetically determined and expressed at any level of rooting conditions.
The presence of water soluble positive and negative rooting factors in the cutting were demonstrated by a washing experiment.
The root initiation promoting effect of indol butiric acid (IBA) was demonstrated in relation to other endogenous factors in both easy and hard rooting cultivars.
The need for a specific optimal leaf number or area for maximal rooting of olive cultivars was demonstrated.
The possible involvement of the sclerenchyma layer in the rooting potential of olive cultivars was followed and discussed.
