Abstract
Bioagritest Srl is a Phytosanitary Laboratory accredited by Italian Ministry of Agriculture through Basilicata Region Phytosanitary Service as related to the DD. MM. 14/4/1997, in accordance with the technical regulations for commercialisation of vegetable seedlings and multiplication material for vegetables, promulgated by directives n. 93/61/CEE 2nd July 1993 and n. 93/62/CEE 5th July 1993.
During three years of activity, 2005-2007, Bioagritest has assisted the technical production of the main industry tomato producing nurseries in southern Italy, with the final phytosanitary certification of over 680 millions tomato plants.
The assistance aimed at the qualification of the nurseries from the phytosanitary point of view, through the application of a global assistance plan – going beyond the requirements of Phytosanitary Service – comprising the following steps: check of structural suitability of greenhouses for safety plant propagation material production, control of all raw materials from the chemical and phytopathological point of view (irrigation water, soil, seeds), eventually seed improvement by the application of chemical and physical methods (seed disinfection and decontamination from pathogens such as viruses, fungi and bacteria), monitoring of chromotropic traps for the evaluation of insect populations present in greenhouse, visual inspection of seedlings for early identification of viral, bacterial and fungal symptoms, serological assays for virus detection and, finally, phytosanitary certification.
Results of three years activity are reported.
