YIELD, STORAGE ABILITY, QUALITY AND CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF CARROT, CABBAGE AND LEEK AT CONVENTIONAL AND ORGANIC FERTILIZING

During 1975–1976 the effects of different fertilizers (i.e. organic and mineral) at normal and half level on yield, storage ability as well as chemical composition at harvest and after storage were investigated.

The investigation was carried out in frames in the experimental field with carrot, cabbage and leek as the crops.

The results from this investigation clearly demonstrate the pronounced effect of the amount of available nutrients in the soil on the yield of cabbage and leek, independent of the type of fertilizer used.
A change from the generally accepted practice with the supply of plant nutrients through an application of mineral fertilizers to an exclusive use of organic fertilizers would not result in a produce with a higher nutritive value, a more healthy chemical composition or storage ability.
