Abstract
Drought resistance of nine ground cover rose (Rosa hybirida L.) cultivars was evaluated and classified based on subordinate function, fuzzy function method, and cluster analysis.
The effective parameters and indexes of comprehensive evaluation for drought resistance were selected with principal component analysis.
The results showed that under drought stress, the leaf area, branch number, shoot growth, leaf relative water content (RWC), and chlorophyll content decreased obviously.
However, drought stress induced the increase of the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), proline, soluble sugar and soluble protein, antioxidative enzyme activities and relative conductivity.
Effects of drought treatment on different ground cover rose cultivars were significantly different. ‘Amour Flame’ and ‘Henan Barcino’ were found to be highly resistant to drought, while ‘Purple Msi Computer’ and ‘Pink Olympic’ performed the worst.
Our results also indicated that drought index (DI) and subordinate function values of drought resistance (SV) were significantly correlated with drought resistance.
Additionally, DI, SV, the leaf area, RWC, and MDA content could be used as parameters and indexes to effectively evaluate the drought resistance of ground cover rose, suggesting that the main drought resistance mechanism of round cover rose was physiological drought resistance.
This result can provide an applied scientific method for selecting ground cover rose cultivars in garden greening in the arid regions.
