EVALUATION OF SELECTED SSR MARKERS FOR THEIR CAPABILITY TO CONTROL THE QUALITY OF CABBAGE F1 HYBRIDS PRODUCTION

Abstract
It is clearly evident that F1 hybrid cultivars are more and more used in
commercial production of cabbage.
However, produced seeds are often contaminated
by seeds with non-hybrid properties.
The aim of this work was to evaluate selected SSR
and ISSR markers as a potential substitution for traditional field grow-out assessment
of F1 hybrid seeds purity.
Individual markers were evaluated on the base of their power
to control the quality of seed production and capability to clearly distinguish individual
varieties.
To simulate standard practice as much as possible, a group of 7 trinities
consisted from two parental lines and their crossbred hybrid, all originating from one
cooperative seed company, was analysed.
Used SSR markers surprisingly offered relatively low degree of polymorphisms.
In spite of this fact they were theoretically able to control character of used breeding
lines or membership of samples to supposed F1 variety.
