Abstract
In almost all studies of the postharvest physiology of cut flowers, the effects of various treatments are determined by evaluating the vase life of the flowers following the treatments.
The conditions reported in the literature under which such evaluations are carried out vary widely, making it difficult to compare results from different laboratories.

In an attempt to achieve some uniformity in future studies on the vase life of cut flowers, a discussion session was held at the close of the Symposium directed towards establishing a standard set of conditions for evaluation of vase life.
The results of this discussion are summarized briefly in the following sections.
