Abstract
Juglans regia L. is the only wild walnut type spread in Bulgaria.
It is grown in the country as a nut crop, but also exists a wild plant in Western Bulgaria in the Rhodope mountains.
The selection of superior genotypes started in 1965 by Nedev and orchards still under cultivation were established with them.
Among 300,000 wild genotypes that have been evaluated in Bulgaria, two of them were released as the main cultivars in this country namely ‘Izvor 10’ and ‘Sheynovo’. In the present study, agrobiological characteristics of these two cultivars such as type of fruiting, biometric characteristic of the fruits, yield etc. are explained.
