Abstract
Five year experiments were carried out to select best light source for production of tomato transplants in greenhouse and growth rooms.
Seven different metal halide lamps and high pressure sodium lamps were compared with high pressure mercury lamps used as standard.
All experimental results indicated that high radiant efficiency of high pressure sodium lamp equal to 258 mW/W resulted in significant increase of plant growth and this light source was always superior to all other tested lamps.
Due to important economical advantage high pressure sodium lamps should replace commonly used in Poland high pressure mercury lamps.
