Abstract
In winter plant growth in greenhouses is strongly limited by the amount of solar radiation in northern countries.
This leads to long propagation periods and high energy demand for greenhouse heating.
The use of artificial light can improve the growth rate considerably but causes high consumption of electric energy.
The comparison of the energy demand for seedling production in greenhouses and growing rooms shows, that a reduction of energy input is possible and also a reduction of energy costs by production in growing rooms.
