Abstract
The apricot breeding program has been located at Research and Breeding Institute of Pomology Holovousy Ltd. since 1970s.
The main goals of apricot breeding program is to breed the varieties suitable to main and marginal apricot area as well.
Next goals are fruit quality for fresh market, high productivity, biotic and abiotic stress resistance.
Main point of interest is resistance to PPV and extend the dormancy and in the same time increasing the hardiness of blossoms to a late spring frost.
Annually is done approx.
Fourteen crossing and 2,000 flowers be pollinated.
Our breeding work has resulted in the one new selection called ‘VOJ 5/145’. Trees of this genotype was evaluated in non-irrigated orchard using St.
Julien rootstocks. ‘VOJ 5/145’ is mid-early ripening, precocious, productive and very good storable in cold warehouse at 1°C in MAP bags.
