Efficacy of ancymidol for long-term storage of asparagus plantlets in vitro

Abstract
Ancymidol, a plant growth regulator, was investigated as a medium supplement to improve long-term storage of asparagus plantlets in vitro.
Findings showed that when more than 15 μmol L‑1 ancymidol was added to the medium, plantlets growth slowed down and preservation was prolonged in vitro at 17°C. After 12 months conservation in ancymidol media, 100% asparagus plantlets survived.
Furthermore, 75% of asparagus plantlets of the cultivars ‘D9’ and ‘1770’ survived for 18 months under the same conditions.
