Abstract
ASOCAN is the Association of Growers and Exporters of cut flower and plants from Canary Islands, created for several growers of cut flowers to defend the interests of the ornamental sector in the Canaries, issues as important as disease pests, transportation, collective bargaining in the labor and tax field, promotion and marketing, agriculture insurance, employee training, in short it becomes the interlocutor of the sector before the Public and Private Administrations.
This paper reports on the nature and role of the ASOCAN about Proteaceae production in the Canaries, how an association can be a platform to achieve joint objectives of different production areas or islands, and also provides the current status of protea production in the main islands (La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria), as summarized by area reports which were compiled by representatives from each island mentioned before.
