Abstract
Tunisia has a large diversity of fig tree (Ficus carica L.) represented by dozens of cultivars.
The region of Kesra (north-west Tunisia) is an area of traditional fig tree cultivation.
However, this heritage has not been well explored.
The objective of this study is the inventory of local fig cultivars in this region.
Several surveys were conducted in various traditional farms representative of the Kesra region.
The field work started in August with meetings with farmers in the field.
Surveys and passports were used to collect as much information as possible.
The difficulties encountered by the farmers and the phytosanitary status of this typical fruit crop were recorded.
A total of 27 local cultivars were recorded on the basis of preliminary observations and local denominations.
These data allowed us to have a general idea of the Kesra region, its agricultural activities and the current state of the diversity of the fig tree.
Advanced analyses of genetic diversity of local fig germplasm are being conducted.
