Abstract
Actinidia eriantha is a species with great potential to be a noble berry after A. chinensis var. chinensis and A. chinensis var. deliciosa. However, most of the A. eriantha fruit are difficult to meet the taste of requirement for fresh eating because of their sour flavor and low sweetness, resulting in the restricting the market expansion.
Therefore, sweet taste are the important breeding traits for A. eriantha. Fortunately, we found a sweet genotype with excellent fruit traits in Nancheng County (Jiangxi Province, P.R. China), and named it ‘Gangreen 1’. Then, we performed DUS test (Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability), and found that it is a novel diploid genotype, with the average value of 47.75 g for fruit weight, 19.76% (highest was 20.5%) for soluble solid content, 22.11% for dry matter, 9.60% for total sugar content and 0.92% for titrable acid content, 668.06 mg 100 g‑1 for ascorbic acid.
Based on the previous assembly of the ‘Gangreen 1’ genome, we identified 16 beta-amylase gene (BAM) family members that regulating starch transfer to sugar, and found that AeBAM13/14/15 were key candidate genes involved in the formation of sweet taste.
