Abstract
The uptake, translocation and metabolism of exogenously supplied [3H] putrescine in a single corymb of apple was studied.
In short-term experiments the uptake of putrescine in isolated young leaves and flowers reached the maximum within 10–30 minutes after feeding the labeled compound and was faster in flowers.
In long-term experiments using entire corymbs we demonstrated the capacity of apple fruitlets as well as of young leaves to synthesize polyamines.
Putrescine and probably spermidine and spermine are translocated via the peduncle.
