Abstract
Pollinizers suitable for brining were evaluated on Napoleon (Royal Ann) sweet cherry and Napoleon was evaluated on these same pollinizers.
The bloom phenology and characteristics, bee attractiveness, fruit set, and pollen tube growth period were evaluated.
Bada had similar bloom period and characteristics and gave the highest set and shortest pollen tube growth period, 5 days, with Napoleon at 5.9–7.1°C. Rainier and Corum gave high fruit set, bloomed earlier, 6–7 days, and had similar bee attractiveness, but both had low fruit set with Napoleon pollen while pollen tube growth period was 7 and 9 days.
Vega gave less fruit set and was less attractive to bees than Napoleon.
Temperatures as low as 5.9°C during bloom had little influence on fruit set and pollen tube growth period of Napoleon sweet cherry.
