Abstract
Shipping fresh vegetables over long distances poses problems and difficulties not easily resolved as might be the case for local market situations.
The discussion is illustrated by an example where a grower/ shipper failed to harvest and store a chilling sensitive crop properly, where a distant receiver apparently did not know about or understand the agricultural practices and climatic conditions of the shipping region and where the regulatory system was legalistic but not very helpful.
Some comments are presented on the role of post-harvest physiologist for improving the quality of vegetables moved in world markets.
