Abstract
In vitro shoot growth of Gymnocalicium mihanovichii, a red cap cactus ‘Hibotan’, was investigated on various modifications of Murashige and Skoog medium, and on a modification of Gamborg medium.
The basal medium (Savage et al. 1979) containing 50 gl-1 of sucrose, 0.5 gl-1 of L-malic acid, 5 mgl-1 of 6-benzylcamino purine and 0.1 mgl-1 of 1-naphthaleneacetic acid at pH 5.4 was found to maintain the best growth of three chlorophyll-deficient cacti: Gymnocalicium mihanovichii, Akersja sp. and Lobivia sp.
