Abstract
The loss of leaflets, leaves, petals, florets or flowers can be a serious problem during production and marketing of many cut flowers and potted plants.
Recent advances in our understanding of the physiology and biochemistry of these events, and of the role of different natural growth regulators in their expression is reviewed.
The anionic silver thiosulfate complex has become an important tool in preventing abscission in ornamental plants.
The action of this material and its practical applications are discussed.
