Abstract
Glass has been the traditional glazing material in North America.
However, the introduction of polyethylene films has provided an alternative for greenhouse growers.
During the last decade the lower cost of construction as well as energy conservation have been the main criteria for building more air inflated double polyethylene than glass greenhouses in North America.
Greenhouse construction as well as climate control has changed dramatically to adapt to the nature of double polyethylene film.
Research is continuing to make polyethylene film more suitable as a greenhouse covering.
Important characteristics such as longevity, UV-stabilization, antifog, IR-transmissivity, etc. are discussed.
