Abstract
Fresh market tomatoes transplanted into fall seeded rye killed with a contact herbicide yielded less No. 1 fruit than plants transplanted into conventional tillage.
In one year the no-till planted tomatoes produced fewer No. 2 and cull fruit, but this was not consistent.
Plants in conventional tillage commense growth sooner after transplanting and have a more rapid growth rate for the initial 40 days.
In one year the no-till planted tomatoes produced fewer No. 2 and cull fruit, but this was not consistent.
Plants in conventional tillage commense growth sooner after transplanting and have a more rapid growth rate for the initial 40 days.
Although yields are not as great with no-till, the benefits of this tillage system tend to counter this adverse effect.
Yields from no-till also tend to be later than with conventional tillage.
